Shades of Summer

These. Shades.
And I’m not just talking about the sunglasses.

Bold has never been a word in my vocabulary. When given the choice of a statement piece of clothing or an over-sized tee, I will choose the tee every single time without failure. You can imagine how boring it gets after years of choosing simple, so I’ve been on the hunt for ways to add some spice back into my everyday looks. How have I done this? Well, I’m glad you asked. And if you didn’t, I’m going to tell you anyway.

The formula I’ve come up with is add two statement pieces to every complete outfit. It can be a colorful necklace, a fun pair of shoes, embroidered pants (which is a huge trend right now)… whatever fits your personality best. My favorite? A bold lip and these gold cat eye shades.

I LOVE these sunglasses. I take better care of these babies than I do myself sometimes. When they got their first scratch, I felt the pain with them. These sunnies can’t do me wrong. They are the perfect summer staple, especially when paired with a bold red lip, and let’s be honest, there is nothing that makes you feel as fierce as you do when you’re wearing a bold lip. I chose Colourpop’s satin lip color in London Fog because of its creamy formula. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a matte lip when going bold, but not when it feels like I’m carrying the Western Sahara on my face. The best part about these lip colors are they’re only $6! Why yes, I’ll take one of each please.

The key to looking good is feeling confident. Choose statement pieces that make you stand extra tall and you’ll have heads turning. What are your favorite statement pieces?

With love,
