Turquoise x Black

blackandturquoise-6-2I always play it safe when it comes to jewelry. I don’t go for anything too big and I definitely stay away from bright colors. I’ve also, however, been trying to step out of my comfort zone and expand my wardrobe. That’s why when I saw this necklace for the first time, I knew it was the perfect piece to push my style to the limit.

I’ve been loving turquoise and silver lately, so this necklace immediately caught my attention when I first saw it on Instagram. It looked different from anything I’d ever seen before and I loved it even more once I found out it was affordable! I got this statement piece from Zara for $17, but now it’s on SUPER sale for $5.99. Unfortunately it’s sold out online, but hopefully you can still find it in stores before they’re all gone. I’m telling you people, this necklace makes me feel some type of way and has me strutting around like I’m Beyoncé. It’s worth it.

Since this necklace makes such a statement, I wanted to dress more neutral as to not draw attention away from it. I’ve been on a black clothing craze lately and thought, “what better color to pair with turquoise than black?” Black adds contrast to the brightness of the necklace, which brings the focus upward toward the face. I thought this sleeveless turtleneck sweater from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (still going on until August 8th) would be perfect because of its high neckline, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I’m not sure if it’s because of the long fit that will cover all kinds of areas in the fall (ladies, you know what I’m sayin’) or the turtleneck that makes me feel like I’m curled up in bed (where I’d rather be on this Monday morning), but this sweater is the best. I ran errands in this sweater. I took a nap in this sweater. I enjoyed lunch (and spilled all over myself) in this sweater. I want to live the rest of my life in this sweater.

Okay, that’s a little much. But it is that good.
